welcome to wineology

A boutique wine specialist based in Salt Rock, South Africa

Stockists of beautiful and interesting South African wines.

Wineology, our boutique wine shop

Wineology is a boutique wine store concept, created by Peter and Vanessa. Both are long-term KZN North Coasters who live in and love the beautiful part of South Africa that is Salt Rock. Together they share a love for wine and so created Wineology. The vision for Wineology is to bring the Cape Wine Experience to the KZN North Coast. The Cape has so many boutique wine farms that KZN is not exposed too, and so our passion is to encourage KZN North Coasters to explore the Cape wine routes.

We stock a range of wines, from everyday drinking to premium. Every one of our wines has been selected and tasted by us before we stock it, and we strive to update the range regularly to continue bringing fresh ideas and bottles into Wineology.

"If you’re in the Salt Rock area, do yourself a favour and drop into Wineology at the Sage Centre. The shop has a lovely feel to it and the hosts are super friendly and helpful. They will steer you towards some excellent wine choices. Don’t be surprised if you walk out with more bottles than you’d originally planned to buy!"

February Newsletter

I can’t believe that we are already in the second month of 2023, and I hope that you are all surviving this summer with lots of bubbly!
Perfect for this hot weather is our new Cinsault. Gatos Cinsault (2021), from Axe Hill Winery. Based in Calitzdorp, Axe Hill prides itself on specialising in Cape Port and Portuguese cultivars. The name Axe Hill originates from the stone hand tools found on the farm during the preparation of the vineyards in 1993. It is believed that these stone tools were used over a quarter of a million years ago! All Axe Hill wines are produced in limited quantities with minimal intervention.
Gatos wines are inspired by the family of semi-feral cats on the farm, who all originate from one female, Mrs Mom. Those are the cats on the packaging 🙂

We are also stocking Valdo Prosecco now for those that didn’t pop in over December.
Less-Is-More Wines from Robertsons are also new in the shop. We love their philosophy of being kinder to the earth with fewer chemicals, fewer pesticides, lightweight bottles, less packaging and fabric labels. The labels are designed to be clear so that you can write a message on your bottle so there is no need for a card We stock both their Pinotage and Chardonnay (unwooded).

Upcoming events:
Black Elephant have FINALLY confirmed dates with me. Jacques Wentzel, the winemaker at Black Elephant Vintners will be here on the 27th and 28th March for everyone’s favourite wine and music pairing. The cost will be R400pp, inclusive of wine, food and the music experience. Spaces are limited to 28 people per night due to the number of headsets available. Please note that 32 people have already provisionally booked for the tasting so spaces will go quickly. I will contact those who have provisionally booked separately.
Valenwine’s Day. Wineology is not known for being romantic, but we do love wine and cheese! We have had requests to host a chilled evening for those not keen on the dinner date idea, and hence we are hosting Valenwine’s Day. Singles, couples, groups of friends are welcome! Booking is essential please.

And that’s it from me. Hopefully I will see you all in the shop soon, and that you are all keeping well!
